The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year an 1959. It bears the indelible stamp of its founder Late Prof. K.
Krishnan Nair. The alumni of this department have occupied distinguish posts not only in India but also abroad. The Department has a unique distinction of obtaining an 'A' grade accreditation from NBA, AICTE, New Delhi and also is ISO certified. The Department offers one UG program with an intake of 50 and four P.G.programs - Digital Systems (DSE), Microwave & Radar (MRE), Sytem and Signal processing (SSP) and Embedded Systems and VLSI Design (ESVLSI) with an intake of 15 each. It also offers MS by research in collaboration with Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Hyderabad. It has produced about 25 docotorates so far. The Department has been in the forefront for research & training activities in the areas of Communication, Microwaves and Digital Signal Processing. The Department has organized several international and national conferences/seminars in these areas.
In addition, the Department also conducts short term courses regularly. It has successfully completed many research projects sponsored by AICTE, DST, CSIR and DRDO etc. The "Center for Excellence in Microwave Engineering" has been recently established with total support from Asta Microwave Products Ltd. A research program in Digital Signal Processing has been initiated with financial support from Analog Devices, India.
The Department is also trying to serve as a role model by providing consultancy, short term courses etc to other Engineering Colleges, Organizations/Industries in and around the twin cities and elsewhere. The Governement of India is providing fund for organizing Technical Education Quality Imporvement Program (TEQIP) to establish new laboratories like VLSI, Advanced Communication Systems, Digital Signal Processing and Speech Signal Processing.
